Overview:

The primary responsibilities of the Payroll Specialist include daily operations of payroll services for the entire Scheels Corporation. This will include payroll knowledge to ensure multi-state and federal regulations are in compliance.

The Essentials:

  • Complete bi-monthly payroll processing and balancing for the Corporate Offices (approximately 250+ associates) to include:
    • Accurate and complete time-card processing
    • Process deductions and benefits accurately and timely
    • Prepare payroll and benefits related journal entries to be posted to the accounting system
    • Prepare and balance period-end reports
  • Maintain accurate employee records for current employees to include:
    • Supervisor assignments
    • PTO balances
    • W-4 Information
    • Direct Deposit Information
  • Data entry of all new hire payroll information into payroll systems (Optimum and Insperity)
  • Process terminations ensuring the accuracy for the final earnings payout
  • Complete employment verifications in a timely manner
  • Assist with the process to generate, balance and submit monthly/quarterly/annual state and federal tax and benefit information for all locations to include:
    • Generate and file Form 941
    • Federal Unemployment payments and annual filing of Form 940
    • State Unemployment payments and filing for 13 states
    • State Withholding payments and filing for 10 states
  • Assist with the process to generate, balance, distribute and submit annual W-2 forms for all locations
  • Research changes in tax and deduction laws that apply to the payroll process
  • Provide technical support, information and assistance in all matters related to the payroll system
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality when dealing with sensitive employee information and/or communication
  • Performs other related tasks as needed

 

Expert Experience:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree from a College or University in an Accounting, Business or related field.  One to three years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. 
 

Activity:

Must be able to sit, stand, bend at the waist, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, walk, push/pull, lift, talk, and hear with or without reasonable accommodation

 

Sedentary work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Roles are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Schedule:

Must be flexible to work between 8a.m. and 5p.m., Monday through Friday, with some weekends as needed averaging 40 hours per week
